Hook angles that actually perform, ranked by 356 reels

Confession, fact, regret story, hot take, POV, secret and heart bait: what each angle is, which reaction to pair it with, and how they scored on real accounts.

September 1, 2026 · hooks · data · copywriting

We write every hook for our own brands using seven archetypes, then measure each reel seven days after posting. This guide is the current ranking, with one example per angle and the reaction that works best in front of it. The numbers below come from the examples and update with every factory run.

The ranking

Angle Avg score Median Best Reels
Confession 458 145 2,120 68
Fact 429 162 1,930 68
Hot take 408
Heart bait 320 160 1,927 55

Averages hide a lot: the median tells you what a typical post does, the best tells you what the angle is capable of when the face, the cut and the sound line up. See the live table on the hook library.

Confession

“i picked rims at 1am from a tiny catalog photo”. A small, specific, slightly embarrassing admission that the demo resolves. Pair with wait, what? or this got me. It is our top scorer because it invites the viewer to admit the same thing in the comments.

Fact

“the same wheels look different on your exact car angle”. A concrete statement about the problem, ideally one that sounds obvious once said. Pair with stunned laugh. Facts are the safest angle for B2B-ish products where a confession would feel off.

Regret story

“i regret logging lunch manually before vacation 😭”. The most reliable opener in the food and fitness niche. Pair with this got me or are you serious?. It works because regret is universal and the demo is the fix.

Hot take

“tracking calories by hand is a scam”. Contrarian, invites disagreement. Pair with are you serious?. Comments go up, saves go down; use it when you want reach more than conversion.

POV

“pov: you finally hit protein without thinking about it”. Drops the viewer into a moment. Pair with no way!. Short-lived but strong when a trend is running.

Secret

“nobody talks about how often tracking means guessing the dressing”. The part everyone hides. Pair with wait, what?. Good for mature niches where the audience already knows the basics.

Heart bait

“if you loved it in photos then hated it on your car ❤”. Emotional recognition. Pair with this got me. The lowest average but one of the highest ceilings, so keep one in rotation.

How to use this

Pick the angle first, then the reaction, then the clip. Write three variants of the same angle, post them on three days with the same demo, keep the best, and only then change the angle. The Reel Builder lets you preview all three in a minute.

The rhetorical shape of the first line: a confession, a fact, a regret, an opinion. The angle decides which emotion the reaction clip should show.
